Richie is a 31-year CFL veteran. He played nine seasons as an all-star defensive back and punt returner with Calgary and Saskatchewan. For the last 22 years, he has been a head coach and defensive backs coach and is currently a defensive coordinator. The bulk of his coaching career has been in Saskatchewan, with stops in Edmonton and currently in Winnipeg. He has a genuine soft spot for all four cities he has coached or played in.
Born into a military family, Richie moved around as a youth. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, with stops in Okinawa, Japan, Wyoming, and Maine, before settling in Denver for junior high and high school. He attended college at Colorado State in Fort Collins as a walk-on eventually earning an athletic scholarship and a degree in social work.
Guy is an award-winning, national bestselling author and journalist. His first book, Gold on the Ice: The Story of the Sandra Schmirler Curling Team was on a number of bestselling charts for a full year and was the #1 selling non-fiction book by a Canadian author in Canada the year it was released. His second and third books, Between the Sheets" Creating Curling Champions and Between the Sheets: The Silver Lining, have been Amazon bestsellers in the winter sports, and sports psychology genres for the past five and ten years, respectively, hitting #1 on sports psychology as recently as October 2016.
More than 50 Wold, Olympic, and /or National curling champion teams from 15 countries have incorporated his book's principles into their training. Guy has written for a variety of magazines on a number of topics and has been published over 170 times with 30 cover features.
